In Loving Memory of Onyxx

Onyxx was affectionately often called by her nicknames: Onyxx Girl or Keke. She came into her family’s life through the James River Humane Society in Jamestown, where she first captured the heart of her human mom. Some friends take time to warm-up, but not Onyxx; from the first moment, she claimed her place. She was never just a pet, as she was widely recognized as a small, fierce presence with immense love to give and even more personality to share.

Onyxx will be remembered in many ways, but those who loved her most will always think of her as a feisty, sassy, and deeply loving friend. Onyxx had a way of filling a room without ever trying very hard: when she was in your space, you knew about it. She was the kind of cat who was comfortable with telling her people exactly what she wanted. She also clearly indicated more than what was in demand, but also how we were expected to get it.

One of her most legendary habits was her gentle (and more often than not, " less gentle") campaign to secure the best seat in the house. She would sit directly in front of her best dog-friend, Abbie and patiently wait. She persistently offered a steady stream of irritation until Abbie caved and finally moved. With victory on her face, Onyxx would step in and claim the already-warmed blanket without properly thanking Abbie for her efforts. Onyxx was a master of mischief and perfect timing equal to comedy greats. She never failed to make her people laugh.

Onyxx, though a huge personality, was also a creature of rituals, and night was a time to go through the routines. Tube treats were sacred, and she never forgot the schedule - nor did she let us forget. Like a mobile alarm clock, each evening was marked by the appointed time: she would emerge from her favorite hiding spot and sit while offering a stare of quiet determination. Once treats were distributed, everyone understood the next step of the evening was preparation for bed. Once bedtime was authorized by Onyxx, she was prepared to snuggle, but only for a few precious minutes.

Onyxx showed her love in both bold and tender ways. She remained physically close with her people, and allowed cuddles and pets. She even snuck in snuggles with Abbie, who was most certainly her best buddy and partner in daily life. Their bond was easy, familiar, and full of shared warmth. The two different spirits were woven into one small household rhythm.

Losing them only months apart leaves a particular kind of quiet, the kind that echoes where two heartbeats used to be. Both of them left their marks, and neither will soon be forgotten. She loved her mommy, her grandma and grandpa, her auntie (with whom she enjoyed a little playful mischief), and she loved Abbie most of all. Love, in many ways, was the center of her small, bright world.

She brought so much to our lives, but little as... verbose as her voice. Sometimes her meows came out in such a funny, expressive ways that they reminded her family of a Cardi B sound: unexpected, dramatic, and completely unforgettable.

Onyxx was a sassy buddy, a loyal snuggler, and a tiny soul with a big presence. Now she rests again with Abbie, and together they leave behind a home that will always remember their warmth, their antics, and the quiet comfort of having been so deeply loved.
